With the soundtrack for the chase sequence now complete, I have been able to export an audio to movie file from the workstation. The Bolt chase sequence has challenged me to experiment with a variety of sounds in order to achieve an exhilarating, energetic and also a dynamic soundtrack. As I have previously researched a variety of chase sequences which are similar to the Bolt footage, I made the decision to use the underscore from a chase sequence that was discovered through my research. A track known as 'Desperate Chase' from the Metal Gear Solid series provided the music for my chase sequence, as the rhythm of the score conveniently matched up with the visuals perfectly, and balanced together with the various scenarios that were taking place.
Below is a link to the orchestral score that has been used for the soundtrack. As this score was originally composed for a chase sequence which is of a similar speed and essence as Bolt, the music massively supports the Bolt clip.

In order to create the desired atmosphere through the use of the sound, I was able to implement suitable sounds in order to either emphasise or characterise certain events that take place. For example, using the Foley sounds of hitting metallic objects provided a plausible sound for Bolt biting down on the explosive device, as well as applying sudden weight to a thin metallic surface provided the sound for Bolt making an immense landing on top of the train. Due to the nature of the situation, I aimed to use the sound effects to predominately stress the urgency that Bolt needs to escape the pursuers. By using appropriate amounts of automation in certain places across the score, I was able to make certain sounds follow the visuals, as well as allow some sounds to dominate others. The use of this tool allowed the sound of the countdown on the explosive device to suddenly emerge on top of the entire soundtrack, as all other sounds fell to the ground.
Overall, the Bolt chase sequence occurs at high speed, with many scenarios taking place continuously throughout the pursuit. It's action packed, thrilling and above all, stimulating to watch. My primary focus was to achieve the same vibe through the soundtrack that the viewer receives through the visuals. The choices I made throughout this development were directed to accomplish the dramatic and dangerous situation through the use of sound, which arises within the story.
